Frequently Asked Questions
What is coaching?
Coaching is a collaborative relationship between the client and the coach. It provides a space to reflect on challenges, and enable the client to think through possible ways forward. The client is the expert on their own life, and the coach helps to create the space to allow exploration and encourage deeper reflection and possible reframing.
What is the difference between coaching and therapy/counselling?
This is actually a very difficult question to answer, as there is a complex relationship between the two with a number of overlaps.
Coaching tends to be quite practical; for example, even when topics like childhood come up, this is often used to understand the present, and inform actions that clients may wish to take.
I am a Coaching Psychologist, and maintain my ethical and professional boundaries by operating within my area of expertise and do not offer therapy or counselling.
What can coaching help with?
Coaching is a broad and adaptable tool, which can be used on a wide variety of topics. A range of common topics which arise in the work I do include: what do I want from my life, work-life balance, boundary management, time management, neurodiversity, self-advocacy, managing change, communication, identity and confidence.
What can I expect from a coaching session?
My coaching approach is very client-centred and fluid. I aim to create a safe, non-judgemental space where clients can be their uncensored selves. Through discussing and exploring challenges, the conversation flows to spaces where we uncover root causes of issues and work together to experiment with ways forward. Sessions have been described as natural and flowing, and as going where they need to go, with whatever is most important to the client at the time.
What is your approach to coaching?
I aim to create a safe, non-judgemental space where my clients can bring their authentic selves as a foundation to honest and effective coaching conversations.
I collaborate and co-create with my clients, empowering them to make the changes they want, and accept the things in life that we cannot change.
As a coaching psychologist my approach draws on a range of evidence-based practice, including Acceptance and Commitment Coaching, Humanism and Positive Psychology. These approaches are all about enabling people to live their best lives.
How long does coaching last?
I tend to offer 60 minute sessions, but I am happy to offer 90- or 120- minute sessions if they are better for you. Frequency is often fortnightly to enable time between sessions for reflection and experimentation and not lose momentum, but again, can be directed by client needs. Coaching is intended to be a short-term intervention, but the number of sessions will be determined by client needs and what you want to work on. For some people, this may be 4 sessions, whereas for others it might be 10 or more.
Do you work with neurodivergent clients?
Absolutely! I am a late-diagnosed ADHDer myself, have a Postgraduate Certificate in Neurodiversity, and work with a lot of neurodivergent clients. Neurodiversity can be a topic for coaching, or part of the identity you bring. You do not need a diagnosis to explore psychoeducation and neurodiversity within our coaching sessions. I do also work with neurotypical clients!
What are your rates?
60-minute sessions over Microsoft Teams are £140. Please message me to discuss 90 and 120 minute sessions, or options for block bookings. I offer a small number of ‘pay what you can afford’ sessions for people who might not otherwise be able to access coaching, so please get in touch if you would like to discuss if this is for you. My prices are subject to regular review.
Do you offer introductory calls?
Yes! I believe it is really important to ensure that you find a coach who is a good fit for you. For a complimentary 30-minute call to meet and discuss what you’d like to get out of coaching, please use the Contact Me page.
What code of ethics do you follow?
